-According to the World Health Organization, their odds of surviving childbirth are comparable to those of women in countries such as mexico and Uzbekistan (where significant proportions of the population live in poverty)

-The facts: Pregnancy-related deaths per 100,000 live births for black women 30 was four to five times as high as it was for white women.

-Death does NOT happen just during birth- can include: Access to appropriate and high-quality health care, Missed or delayed diagnosis, Lack of knowledge among patients and providers around warning signs , 60% or more of these deaths could have been prevented by addressing these factors at multiple levees, There are complex drivers of maternal mortality.
